Marcia Peterson
1937-2025
KINGSFORD — Marcia Elizabeth (Clement) Peterson, 87, of Kingsford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, Jan.17, 2025, at Evergreen Assisted Living.
Marcia was born on June 30, 1937, in Escanaba, to Dr. Joseph and Muriel Clement. Marcia graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1955. During high school, she was active in cheerleading, drama, ice skating, and many social activities. She also worked at A&W Restaurant as a roller skating carhop.
On April 28, 1956, Marcia married Lloyd (Buzz) Peterson at St. Mary St. Joseph Catholic Church. They eventually settled in Kingsford and started their family of six children.
Marcia worked mainly at Michigan Bell as an operator and stayed with them in the transition to Ameritech as a maintenance engineer. She also worked at Miller Floral sharing her creative side with the beautiful flower arrangements she created that brought delight to those who received them.
Marcia shared her love of travel and adventure with her family by arranging many memorable vacations. Some of which included West Point/New York City to visit her brother Steve’s family, Big Pine Key, Fla., to visit her parents who wintered there, and many other places. Marcia traveled abroad to Italy with her dear friend, Armine Mattia, and drove many times to and from San Antonio, Texas, to spend time with family.
Marcia was a member of Oak Crest Golf Club and played weekly with family and friends. Marcia was lovingly known as Nona to many and perhaps her favorite pastime was watching all the sporting events/activities of her children and grandchildren as their biggest supporter.
In 1970, the Peterson family camp was built in Waucedah. Many years of enjoyment have been shared between family and friends including family reunions, snowmobile adventures, and bonfires with sing alongs.
Each year everyone marks their calendar for the annual “Garbage Can” Turkey Feast! One of the greatest wishes of Marcia and Buzz was that these traditions continue long into the future!
Marcia is survived by a son, Michael (Denice) Peterson, daughters, Ann (Bruce) Olson, Katharine (Steven) Barnes, Linda (Gale) Michaud, and Kim (Todd) Collins; grandchildren, Matthew (Alicia) Peterson, Andrew (Jill) Peterson, Josh (Marie) Peterson, Sara (Fadi) Salem, Stacy (Matt) Lutz, Kristina (Jeremy) Calnin, Derek (Ali) Barnes, Sydney Peterson, Brandon Michaud, Daniel (Courtney) Michaud, Cole (Allison) Michaud, Abby Michaud, Anthony (Kari) Collins, and Emily (Derek) Collins; great[grandchildren, Cooper and Myles Michaud, Gus Peterson, Olivia and Jude Salem, Luka and Lakelyn Lutz, Emmett Calnin, and Bryor Barnes; along with brothers, John (Betty) Clement and Dr. Stephen (Danielle) Clement; brother-in-law, Eugene (Chris) Peterson; and sister-in-law, Karen Peterson-Weslowski.
