IRON MOUNTAIN — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for an opening on its 12-member Michigan State Parks Advisory Committee, saying the ideal candidate will be a resident of the Upper Peninsula.
The committee advises and makes recommendation to the DNR on state parks policy and provides guidance on state park development, management, stewardship, funding and planning.
The application deadline is March 10. More information is available at https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/about/boards/spac, or by contacting Barbara Graves at 517-284-6136.

Ice anglers are reminded that deadlines are approaching to remove permanent ice shanties.
The deadline for Wisconsin-Michigan boundary waters is March 15. The Upper Peninsula deadline is March 31, or before ice conditions are unsafe for removal.
The Wisconsin deadline for waters north of Highway 64 is March 16.
Portable ice shanties can still be used after these dates, provided they’re removed from the ice when not actively in use.
Extra care is advised, as temperature swings in late winter lead to weak ice.

A ticket purchased by a Norway man at the Dickinson County Fair in August proved to be the winner in the annual Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club fundraiser. The prize was 2024 Honda 700 Pioneer and the winning ticket was drawn during the club’s gun and knife show earlier this month.
Tickets go on sale in May for the next annual raffle, this year featuring a four-seat side-by-side — a 2025 Honda Pioneer 700-4.
Proceeds go to the charitable work of the club. Some of the programs include the Big Shooters youth shooting sports team and hunter education.
