Tip-Up Town prizes awarded
CHANNING — Nearly 200 anglers from as far away as Minnesota participated Saturday in the 51st annual Tip-Up Town of the U.P. held on Sawyer and Edey lakes in Sagola Township.
Hosted by the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club, the event offered cash prizes for adults and awards buckets for youth.
Adult division winners included:
— Perch, 1. Michael Talerico, 12 11/16 inches; 2. Brennan Donaldson; 3. Kevyn Pekarek.
— Crappie, 1. Sparky Musolf, 13 1/2 inches; 2. Mark Brunswick; 3. Melissa Lebeau.
— Bluegill, 1. Nick Harwath, 10 3/16 inches; 2. Dalton Skovera; 3. Michael Falk.
— Walleye, 1. Austin VanPembrook, 24 1/4 inches.
— Northern pike, 1. Austin VanPembrook, 37 1/8 inches; 2. April Harwath; 3. Melissa Lebeau.
In the youth division, some of the anglers brought in their prize catches in sleds as they were too short to bring the “monsters” in by hand. The winners included:

— Bluegill, 1. Jason Harwath, 9 1/4 inches; 2. Jordan Bray; 3. Logan Milliron; 4. Quinten Deau; 5. Nathan Conery.
— Walleye, 1. Henry Kasten, 23 1/2 inches.
— Northern pike, 1. Ben Lippert, 36 3/16 inches; 2. Gibson Holsworth; 3. Jack Cvengros; 4. Kashton Steinbrecher; 5. Henry Kasten.
First place winners in the youth categories received trophies donated by Journeys End Taxidermy. Prizes in youth buckets donated by MJ Drilling were supplied by Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club, Cuculli’s Bar, Highline Internet, L&M Fleet Supply, Dunham’s Sports, and Journey’s End Taxidermy.
There were also two silent auction prizes donated by Hardcore Outfitters and Step Ahead.

The Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club north of Channing will host its annual gun and knife show at the clubhouse starting Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. The event resumes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
