Nordics and Knights post softball sweeps; KHS drops two to Miners

STEPHENSON — The North Dickinson Nordics wasted no time in establishing their dominance in their doubleheader sweep of host Stephenson in Skyline Central Conference action Wednesday.

The Nordics exploded for 16 runs in the top of the first inning of the first game and routed the Eagles 23-3 in three innings.

In the second game, North Dickinson scored seven in the opening frame en route to a 16-5 triumph.

In the opener, Ella Rossi and Dalaney Steinbrecher drove in five runs a piece to lead the Nordics’ onslaught. Khloe Roberts added three RBIs to go with two from Aspen Anderson and one each from Lauren Jungwirth, Ava Oman and Aly Steinbrecher.

Dalaney Steinbrecher scored four runs; Anderson, Aly Steinbrecher and Jungwirth finished with three runs scored each and Rossi, Roberts, Janessa Chartier and Mary Grace Holmes crossed the plate twice each.

Chartier was the beneficiary of all the offense, pitching all three innings while allowing six hits, one earned run and fanning five.

In the nightcap, Oman drove home three runs and Jungwirth ripped a triple and posted two RBIs to lead the Nordics. Dalaney Steinbrecher also drove in two runs, while Roberts, Rossi, Taylor Dennocenzo and Alle Brown recorded an RBI each.

Oman pitched all five innings, allowing eight hits and two earned runs. She did not issue a walk and fanned five.

NORWAY — The Norway Knights continued their hot start with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Carney-Nadeau on Wednesday.

In the first game, the Knights plated four runs in the first inning, followed by four more in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth to record a 10-0 victory.

Emma Dube smacked a home run and drove in four to lead the Norway offense in the opener. Anna deBidart added two doubles and three RBIs, while Lilly Tomlanovich, Payton Paquette and Arianna Porthouse knocked in a run each.

Jordyn Moln and Emilee Temrowski each recorded a double.

The combination of starter Kendall Burklund and Moln combined on a one-hitter. Burklund did not allow a hit and fanned eight in her three innings, while Moln allowed one hit and struck out two in two innings of relief.

In the second game, Norway posted three runs in the first and second innings, five more in the third and four in the fourth to record a 15-0 four-inning victory.

Porthouse drove in four runs to support the two-hit shutout pitching of Kara Stanchina. Burklund went 2 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored and Stanchina went 3 for 3 with a double and four runs scored.

Myah Gilroy added two hits, including a double and an RBI. Aidan Fisher, Temrowski and Tomlanovich chipped in with an RBI each.

Stanchina surrendered two hits and no earned runs in her four-inning stint. She struck out 11 and walked one.

NEGAUNEE 4, KINGSFORD 2

NEGAUNEE 11, KINGSFORD 3

KINGSFORD — The Negaunee Miners came to Kingsford Wednesday and left with a doubleheader sweep.

In the first game, Negaunee’s Alyse Robar drilled a home run in the top of the seventh inning to seal her team’s 4-2 win. She also recorded the win in the circle, pitching seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine.

Kingsford senior Anna Bortolini got her team on the board in the bottom of the third when she tripled and came home on Mya Brunswick’s single. Brunswick later scored in the inning as well.

Eden Janousek recorded Kingsford’s other hit, a single, while Bortolini stole two bases.

Brunswick went the distance for the Flivvers, allowing eight hits and three earned runs. She struck out four and did not issue a free pass.

In the final game, the Miners had an easier time, posting an 11-3 win. Janousek topped the Flivvers with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored in the loss. Brunswick drew two walks, Addy Kriegl walked and scored a run and Bortolini stole two bases in the game.

Reagan Cram got the start for Kingsford and went three innings. She allowed two hits and three earned runs and walked four.

Karly Trevillian came on in relief and pitched the final four innings. She surrendered six hits, six runs, walked one and struck out one.
