Local cagers named to All-UP Dream Team

MARQUETTE — After leading the Kingsford boys varsity basketball team to the Breslin Center in his first season at the helm, head coach Ben Olsen has something else to celebrate.
Olsen was named Division 1-3 Coach of the Year by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association on Friday. The Flivvers also took home co-Team of the Year honors in Division 1-2.
The All-U.P. awards were also released with Flivvers senior Gavin Grondin, Iron Mountain senior Oskar Kangas and Forest Park sophomore Vic Giuliani receiving Dream Team honors.
The Trojans, who also made the trip to East Lansing for the state semifinals, took home Division 4 Team of the Year.
Kingsford senior Morgan Sleik received a second team nod in Division 1-3.
Mountaineers senior Gerald Sampoll-Torres and West Iron County senior were also named to the second team.
Iron Mountain seniors Evan Copley and Ian Marttila both received honorable mention alongside Kingsford junior Jack Kriegl.
In Division 4, Forest Park senior Kevin Giuliani was the lone area athlete to receive first team honors.
Norway senior Cole Baij received second team honors alongside Trojans sophomore Dax Huuki and North Dickinson junior Spencer Kramer.
Knights senior Mason Trudeau received special mention honors while Norway senior Bryce Adams, North Central senior Lane Gorzinski, Nordics junior Brady Jungwirth, North Dickinson junior Ty King, Nordics sophomore Trenton Kramer, Jets sophomore Kaden Malone, Forest Park senior Matthew Showers, Trojans sophomore Isaiah Tarter and Jets senior Jordan Walters all received an honorable mention selection.
