Knights sweep Nordics; Flivvers split

FELCH TOWNSHIP — The Norway Knights exploded for 23 runs and held the North Dickinson Nordics to just two runs and two hits in their doubleheader sweep Monday at Felch Township.

In the opener, Kara Stanchina struck out nine hitters over five innings while also going 4 for 5 with two RBIs in Norway’s 15-1 five-inning triumph over the Nordics.

In the nightcap, Kendall Burklund threw a complete game-one hitter and went 2 for 2 with double, an RBI and three runs scored as the Knights recorded an 8-1 victory.

Offensively in the first game, Kaylee Baldwin went 2 for 3 with four RBIs to lead Norway. Burklund added two hits and two RBIs, Lilly Tomlanovich chipped in with two RBIs and two runs scored, Anna deBidart recorded two hits and an RBI with two runs scored and Tessa Castelaz went 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Ashley Carlson, Aidan Fisher, Payton Paquette and Arianna Porthouse all drove in a run for Norway.

In the second game, Emma Dube led the way with three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs. Jordyn Moln went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Baldwin registered two hits and a run scored and Tomlanovich added an RBI and a run scored.

Calumet 0-5

KINGSFORD — Mya Brunswick threw a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to help Kingsford win the first game of a doubleheader over Calumet 5-0.

The Copper Kings rebounded to take the second game 5-4.

In the opener, Sylvia Sutton knocked in three runs and scored twice to lead the Flivvers’ offense. Anna Bortolini added two hits and two stolen bases, while Karly Trevillian chipped in with a single and a run scored.

Kingsford’s running game did damage in the win, recording four stolen bases.

In the nightcap, Bortolini belted two triples and a single, while Kailey Matuszewski contributed two hits.

Regan Cram got the start and took the loss for Kingsford, pitching four innings and allowing three runs and three hits. She struck out three and walked one.
