Knights hold Hematites hitless in doubleheader
NORWAY — Cole Baij pitched a perfect game over the full six innings, striking out 15 of 18 batters, as Norway blanked Ishpeming 3-0 in the nightcap of a doubleheader Friday at Mike Maule Field.
Norway (7-1) won the opener 7-1 as A.J. Gallino went the distance on the mound, allowing no hits.
“Perfect game on the mound for Cole was exciting; he was in complete control in a game where we had to grind on offense,” said Norway coach Tony Adams. “Our focus and execution on offense will have to improve.”
The Knights plated one run in the first, third and fourth innings of the opener.
Owen Baij led the offense with two hits, including a double. Landon Amundson and Gallino contributed singles.
In the second game, Gallino walked two and fanned six. The Ishpeming run was unearned.
Cameron Varda ripped three singles and scored three runs to pace the Knights at the plate. Cole Baij cracked a double and Carter Cazzola singled. Norway drew five walks and there were three hit batsmen.
