Kingsford opens tennis season with victory over Patriots

KINGSFORD — The Kingsford boys tennis team opened its season on a high note with a 6-2 victory over Westwood on Tuesday at Kingsford High School.

“After a slow start to the season due to weather limiting practice time, the team showed up ready to compete and came away with a solid win,” Flivver coach Alek Shanks said. “While there’s still plenty to work on, this was a great way to kick things off, and the team is looking forward to building on this momentum as the season progresses.”

In singles play, Kingsford swept all four flights with dominant performances across the board. Gavin Moore led the way at No. 1 singles with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win, while Landon Adam at No. 2, Evan Grymes at No. 3 and Fletcher Hulkkonen at No. 4 each secured straight-set victories.

In doubles action, Isaac Lebouef and Jacob Crockford battled through a marathon match at No. 1 doubles. After taking the first set, they dropped a grueling second-set tiebreak 18-16, forcing a decisive third set. The duo regrouped and closed it out with a 7-3 win in the third-set tiebreak to secure the victory.

Clark Robb and Andy Yu also picked up a solid win at No. 4 doubles. Westwood grabbed victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots to round out the match.
