IM/K bowling team celebrates successful season

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain-Kingsford High School bowling teams had a successful season.

Bowlers were recognized for their accomplishments with an awards ceremony and dinner at the annual bowling banquet at Recreation Lanes in Iron Mountain, with bowlers, coaches, parents and grandparents in attendance.

The boys were runners-up in the U.P. finals. Six seniors were on the team with Blake Flaminio and Aiden Bourassa named to the Dream Team.

The team placed second at regionals in Gaylord with Blake Flaminio qualifying for state individuals.

At state the team finished ninth, with Blake Flaminio taking third after some close matches. In addition to Flaminio, state bowlers were Bryce Salo, Aiden Bourassa, Hayden Henes, Chase Hallman with alternates David Nanninga and Gavin DuBose.

The X Team, consisting of David Nanninga, Gavin DuBose, Aiden Niemi, Marissa Campbell and Signe Trindal, were U.P. Champions for the last three years.

DuBose was recognized as the only undefeated match play U.P. bowler in 31 years. He also had the highest team average.

This year’s girls team was one of the youngest with only one senior.

Team members are Abby Ward, Joleigh Osieczonek, Chloe Roell, Laci Miles, Amelia Gustafson, Sabrina Markey, and Lilah Schafer.

They finished 7-2 on the year and took third in U.P. finals.

Abby Ward and Chloe Roell ranked in the top 16 at the U.P. finals.

Amelia Gustafson was the highest ranking freshmen in the U.P. finals as well.

The girls finished fifth out of 11 teams at the regionals.

The state of Michigan has 400 boys and almost 400 girls teams.

Coaches are Pete and Kathy Tomassoni, Kevin Hanson, Eli Ward and Hanna Bastian.

Pete Tomassoni’s father, Ron, was instrumental in founding bowling in the U.P. as a high school sport.

The bowlers are already looking forward to next year’s season.
