Gold Medal play starts tonight

HERMANSVILLE — The 86th Gold Medal Classic independent basketball tournament at the Frank Rodman Community Club in Hermansville tips off tonight and runs through April 13.
The tournament features Classes A, B, C, D, EE, E and 35 and over, along with a women’s division and junior high divisions for both boys and girls.
The schedule for the tournament’s opening days:
— Today:
6 p.m.: Class D, 4th Street Elite, Green Bay Wis. vs. CTR 44 Hermansville
7 p.m.: Class D, Team Elevated, Republic vs. Morning Ballers, Gladstone
8 p.m.: Class C, Kingsford vs. Dave’s Auto, Iron Mountain
9 p.m.: Class EE, Swish, Carney vs. U.P. Machine, Powers
— Wednesday:
6 p.m.: Class E, Polly’s Underground, Iron Mountain vs. Stephenson Strollers
7 p.m.: Class D, Meyer Family Vision, Ishpeming vs. Brick City, Felch
8 p.m.: Class EE, Pipkorn Mink Ranch, Hermansville vs.H-Town Browns, Hermansville

The 8 p.m. Class C game today will feature Gavin Grondin and Gavin Trevillian, as well as the other seniors from the 2025 MHSAA Division 2 semifinalist Kingsford Flivvers playing for Kingsford.
The Dave’s Auto roster taking on Kingsford will feature a handful of Iron Mountain Mountaineer alumni basketball players, as well as Oskar Kangas from the 2025 MHSAA Division 3 district champion Mountaineers.
Grondin and Kangas have both committed to continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level — Grondin at Division II Lake Superior State and Kangas at Division III U-W Oshkosh.
