LaPoint named to Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame

DAVE LaPOINT
IRON MOUNTAIN — Dave LaPoint, who served as head baseball coach at Florence High School for 47 years, is a 2025 inductee into the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
LaPoint compiled a career record of 407-217 at Florence as the Bobcats claimed 16 conference championships.
They made 10 WIAA sectional appearances and played in the state tournament in 1998.
It marked the only time that a school from the Northern Lakes Conference reached the state tournament.
While attending the induction in February in Madison, Wis., LaPoint thanked his wife, Kathy, and sons Kevin, Jeff and Dan, “who have supported my love for the game of baseball.”
They were all on hand for the event.
LaPoint, as well, deflected personal credit and cited the talented players who made Florence’s baseball success possible through 47 years.
A Kingsford resident and a 1966 graduate of Iron Mountain High School, LaPoint was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2004. His football teams at Florence posted 17 conference championships in 25 years. They made 19 postseason appearances, reaching the state semifinals in 1981 and the state finals in 1987.
