41 Lumber prepares for state tourney

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association’s 41 Lumber Iron Kings 14U team completed its regular season with an impressive 6-1 and 4-3 sweep over the Marquette Provisions Saturday at Mountain View Ice Arena. It was the third meeting between the squads this season, ending on high note for 41 Lumber as the team preps for the state tournament which is being held at Mountain View this weekend.

Both games saw many familiar names on the scoresheet including Colin Olsen, Jacob Waara, Remington Vitale and Eli Siren. The Iron Kings also saw contributions from newer players Gavin Morrison and Antonio Barrett, showcasing the team’s depth and growth.

Coaches praised the effort of the team, which is comprised of skaters from Iron Mountain, Munising, Manistique, Pembine and Iron River, especially in the second game as the group battled through adversity for the victory.

“They’re really gelling as a team, finding each other and seeing kids who could hardly catch a pass now making big plays that are leading to goals and contributing,” Iron Kings head coach Ben Ryan said.

“It’s a great thing to see for this group heading into states,” he added.

The state tournament runs March 7-9, with 41 Lumber kicking off their tournament Friday at 2 p.m. The team will play twice on Saturday at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. looking to advance to the final round games that take place Sunday.

“Hopefully we can carry our positive momentum and teamwork into the state tournament and continue our success and growth,” Ryan said.
