MHSAA releases boys basketball district pairings
IRON MOUNTAIN — With the postseason a week away, the Michigan High School Athletic Association released the boys basketball district pairings on Sunday.
Instead of a random draw, the entire bracket was selected using the Michigan Power Ratings (MPR). The MPR format takes the top teams in each district and separates them to increase the likelihood of them facing off in the championship game.
In Division 2 District 33, Kingsford (15-3) received a first-round bye. It will play its first game on Feb. 26. The Flivvers will face the winner of the Gladstone and Escanaba matchup on Feb. 24.
In Division 3, West Iron County (4-15) squares off with Calumet in the Charles Greenlund Gymnasium on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m.
Iron Mountain (16-3) received a first-round bye and will open its tournament schedule on Feb. 26 against the winner of Feb. 24’s Gwinn and Bark River-Harris clash.
North Dickinson, Norway and Forest Park all received first-round byes in Division 4. All three will play its first game on Feb. 26
The Nordics (14-5) will face off with the winner of Big Bay De Noc and Mid Peninsula. The Knights (15-5) get the winner of North Central and Carney-Nadeau’s first round matchup while the Trojans (19-1) have the winner between Stephenson and Hannahville.
