KELLEY ADVANCES TO STATE TOURNEY
VALDERS, Wis. — Although Florence senior Breyson Kelley (52-3) was the lone Bobcat to qualify for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 Sectional round, he didn’t let that slow him down.
Kelley advanced through the 190-pound bracket in the sectional round, taking home first place and winning all of his matches by pin.
In the quarterfinals, Kelley toppled Brillion’s Evan Hardy with a first-round fall. He followed that up with a 21-second pin over Weyauwega-Fremont in the semifinals.
Facing Shiocton’s Isaiah Carton in the championship, Kelley secured the pin in the second round.
Now Kelley turns his attention to the WIAA Division 3 state tournament at the Kohl Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis.
He enters the 190-pound bracket as the No. 3-ranked wrestler and received a first-round bye.
His first match will be on Thursday.
GAURDIANS OWNER DOLAN DIES AT 94
CLEVELAND (AP) — Lawrence J. Dolan, owner of Cleveland’s major league baseball team since 2000, has died at age 94.
The Cleveland Guardians put out a statement Monday saying Dolan died Sunday night of natural causes.
Dolan, a Cleveland native, purchased the team from Richard Jacobs in 2000 for $320 million.
The Dolan family is the longest-tenured owners in Cleveland franchise history.
The franchise was known as the Cleveland Indians before changing its name to the Guardians after the 2021 season.
Over the past 24 seasons, Cleveland has won seven American League Central Division titles, made nine postseason appearances and advanced to the 2016 World Series before losing to the Chicago Cubs.
