UWGB ENDS LOSING STREAK
By The Associated Press
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Freshman Ben Tweedy scored a season-best 27 points — 16 more than his previous high — to help Green Bay defeat Wright State 79-68 on Sunday, ending the Phoenix’s 21-game losing streak.
Tweedy added seven rebounds for the Phoenix (3-24, 1-15 Horizon League). Marcus Hall totaled 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Iron Mountain graduate Foster Wonders had two points in the contest. Preston Ruedinger hit two 3-pointers and scored 14.
Solomon Callaghan finished with 21 points for the Raiders (13-15, 7-10). Brandon Noel added 14 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Jack Doumbia pitched in with 13 points and nine rebounds.
TROUT MOVING TO RIGHT FIELD
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Los Angeles Angels oft-injured star Mike Trout is moving from center to right field in hopes of better preserving his health.
The three-time AL MVP played in 82 or fewer games in three of the past four seasons while dealing with an assortment of injuries.
That doesn’t include the 53 games he played in 2020 because that season was shortened to 60 games because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Trout approached the club about the position switch.
“I kind of threw everything on the table as in what’s best for me bodywise to keep me on the field,” he said Monday. “I came to the conclusion that I’m going to go to right field. I’ll try it out and see where it goes.”
