KINGSFORD — If there was any question about how the Kingsford boys varsity team would respond to a loss, they can be put to bed after Tuesday. The Flivvers (12-3, 4-1) squared off with West Iron County (2-15, 1-7) in Flivver Gym and dominated from the opening tip, winning 60-15.

“I love how our guys have turned the page from last Tuesday’s loss,” Kingsford head coach Ben Olsen said. “We have put together two really good games defensively after kind of having a clunker against Norway. You never want to get upset like that, but when it does happen, you hope your team will respond, and they have responded.”

The Flivvers distributed the offensive load in the first quarter. Jack Kriegl led the way with six, while Gavin Grondin and Owen Olkkonen each tallied five.

The Wykons leaned on freshman Seth Oberlin, and he scored all six of their points in the frame. Kingsford took a 23-6 advantage into the second quarter.

Senior Morgan Sliek took over with seven points in the second. Grondin and Olkkonen each hit two 3-pointers, and the lead ballooned to 47-10 at the break.

“Our defensive pressure and assignments were really good,” Olsen said.

With the clock running, Olsen emptied the bench in the second half. In the final two quarters, seven players scored for the Flivvers, including Kriegl, who led the way with four points.

As a result, Kingsford breezed to a 60-15 victory.

West Iron made one 3-pointer in the contest, and the Flivvers connected on six. Kingsford went 10-for-15 from the charity stripe.

Grondin led all scorers in the contest with 12 points.

The Flivvers also received contributions from Olkkonen (11 points), Sid Olson (1 point), Kriegl (10 points), Owen Edwards (1 point), Gavin Trevillian (3 points), Sleik (11 points), Jett Buckley (4 points), Andres Finley (1 point), Blake Tomasoski (1 point) and Alexander Erickson (4 points).

“Tough MPC game on Thursday, then we have another chance at the rivalry game,” Olsen said. “I feel good where we are right now as a team. We just need to keep stacking the good things on top of each other.”

KNIGHTS 84, WOLVES 31

NORWAY — After battling through multiple close games last week, the Norway boys varsity basketball team got a break on Tuesday.

The Knights (13-4, 4-1) easily dispatched Carney-Nadeau (6-12, 1-4), 84-31, for a Skyline Central Conference win in Norway.

Norway opened the first quarter on a roll, making three 3-pointers. As a result, it held a 25-8 advantage after eight minutes.

It was more of the same for the Knights in the second quarter. Seniors Mason Trudeau, Cole Baij and Bryce Adams each scored seven points in the frame. By halftime, the lead had ballooned to 52-17.

Norway’s offense slowed down in the third quarter. However, it wasn’t enough for the Wolves to catch up. AJ Gallino made two 3-point shots in the frame, while Baij pitched in four points. The Knights went into the final eight minutes ahead, 67-24.

The fourth quarter was Norway junior Elliott Kraemer’s time to shine. He connected on four 3-pointers.
