Norway skiing finishes fourth in Marquette
MARQUETTE — The Norway girls varsity ski team took its talents to Marquette Mountain on Monday for a conference clash with Marquette, Houghton and Ironwood.
The Sentinels took the top spot with 21 team points, followed by Ironwood 96, Norway 104 and Houghton 110.
“We have been having some good practices, unfortunately today we had a couple of uncharacteristic falls that really prevented us from scoring well as a team,” said Norway assistant coach Ted Fornetti. “To make things worse the injury bug has bitten us a little bit so we will be looking to get healthy for regionals coming up in two weeks.”
Sofia Ruesch led the way for the Knights with a fourth place in the slalom, while fellow senior Grace Schiltz led the Knights in the giant slalom with a sixth place finish. Junior Ingrid Holt skied solid all day, with four clean runs registering a personal best ninth place in the slalom and a 12th place in the giant slalom. The lone Knight boy skier, sophomore Skylar St. John, registered a 12th place in the giant slalom.
The Knights’ next race is at their home hill, Pine Mountain, on Monday. Racing will begin at 10 a.m.
