Kingsford hockey to host ‘Pink the Rink’ on Tuesday
IRON MOUNTAIN — Kingsford varsity hockey’s annual “Pink the Rink” event takes place Tuesday as the Flivvers host Manistique at Mountain View Ice Arena.
The “Pink the Rink” event offers an opportunity for the community to come together in support of the fight against cancer. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet.
“Cancer impacts so many lives in our community, and this event is a chance for us to not only honor and remember those affected by the disease but also provide financial support to a terrific organization dedicated to helping those in need,” parent volunteer Bonnie Greenleaf noted. “We are looking forward to another successful game and a large donation to the Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet.”
The Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet is a hometown organization that operates to help both cancer and non-cancer patients, offering medical equipment at no charge as well as financial support to cancer patients who are in need. The group is 100 percent supported by community funds and donations and is operated by volunteers.
Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink to the game, with a prize being awarded to the most “pinked out” fan. There will be raffle baskets, a sucker pull and a candy guess jar for kids. A “Pink the Rink” game jersey will be signed by the entire Flivvers team and auctioned off. In addition, fans can make a donation and skate with the Flivvers following the game.
Organizers say the event has brought in several thousand dollars for the Loan Closet over the years. Puck drop for the game is 5:30 p.m.
