IRON MOUNTAIN — Winning all but one of 24 events, Kingsford’s co-op varsity swim team collected a sweep over Ishpeming/Negaunee Tuesday afternoon at the Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center pool.

The Flivvers won 135-28 on the boys side.

The girls took a 112-48 decision.

The lopsided scores came as a result of low numbers on the Ishpeming/Negaunee squad.

“For the most part, the kids swam well, even though we were not as sharp as we usually are,” Flivvers head coach Jim Lindstrom said. “Many of the kids swam different events to try to get qualified.”

Kingsford posted six new U.P. Final qualifying times, one of those coming from freshman Aubree Peterson, first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:29.65).Junior Sam Lamirand was first in the boys 200 freestyle (2:17.60)

Freshman Allison Deuter, took home first in the 200 individual medley (2:34.02) and first in the 100 butterfly (1:09.25)

Senior Sierra Scott grabbed first place in the 50 free (28.67) and sophomore Thomas Gibbons took home first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.25).Peterson also won the 500 free (6:33.60), the second fastest 500 in the U.P. this season.

Lamirand had another first in the 100-meter freestlye with a time of 59.19 seconds.

Iron Mountain senior Joey Lundholm produced two wins as well, continuing to dominate with wins in the boys 200 IM (2:15.90) and 100 butterfly (59.36). Lundholm currently holds the U.P.’s fastest swims in the 50 and 100 fly as well as the 200 IM, and he is second among U.P. boys swimmers in total points.

Deuter’s two wins were events she has not swam yet this season. The ninth-grader is now second in the U.P. in total points behind Marquette’s Olive Krueger. Deuter has the fastest 50 free in the U.P. this season and the second-quickest 100 free, just .32 seconds behind Krueger. Deuter’s victory in the 100 fly also set a new U.P. standard for the season, topping teammate Scott by a fraction of a second on Tuesday. Scott did claim a U.P. best with her butterfly (32.13) as part of the 200 medley relay. The Flivvers won all the relays Tuesday.

Other top swims for the Flivvers Tuesday came from junior Quinton Smith in the 50 free (26.66), senior Petra Kaad in 100 free (1:08.73), and Iron Mountain junior Elena Nelson in the 100 backstroke (1:24.90). Iron Mountain freshman Isaac Nelson earned his first win of the season in the 500 free (7:44.93), and sophomore Emma Strom was also a first-time winner with first in the 100 breaststroke (1:33.90).
