Kingsford hockey falls to St. Clair Shores
BAY CITY — A single-game season high in goals proved not enough for Kingsford in a 10-7 defeat against St. Clair Shores on Saturday morning in non-conference varsity hockey at the Bay City Showcase at the Bay County Civic Arena.
The Flivvers scored first in the game and at one point held a 4-1 first-period lead, but St. Clair Shores drew within one at the first intermission. After a see-saw second period, the teams entered the final 17 minutes tied 6-6 before the Lakers buried the first two goals of the third and never trailed again.
“Offensively we played great,” Flivvers head coach Greg Wadge said. “We had tons of opportunities. I thought it was some of our best puck movement, by far, for the year. Super pleased with how we played offensively. We still need to tighten a few things up on D.”
Seniors Gavin Moore and Jake Crockford each scored twice for Kingsford. Seniors Evan Moyer, Jaxon Buckley and sophomore Jack Spreen also tallied goals. Moore and junior Jake Deuter each had two assists, while junior Will Murvich and freshman Trinton Paynter also had helpers.
St. Clair Shores had seven goal scorers, with senior Dylan Dzikowski’s three-point (2G-1A) effort pacing the squad. Junior goalie Tyler Janowicz stopped 23-of-30 shots for the Lakers.
For Kingsford, freshman Alex Hemgren made his second start of the season in net, and unfortunately it didn’t fare much better than his first. Hemgren played the whole way this time, making 16 saves on 25 shots.
Kingsford, now 2-6-0, hosts Lakeland on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Mountain View Ice Arena.
