Three Flivvers headed to college for athletics

KINGSFORD — After helping lead their teams to successful seasons, three Kingsford athletes signed National Letters of Intent last week with Maddy Kreider, Gavin Grondin and Garrett Brown picking their future homes.

Kreider, the 2023 Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association “Ms. Volleyball” recipient, Division 1-3 Defensive Player of the Year and an All-U.P. Dream Team selection, will be joining the Michigan Technological University volleyball team.

During the 2024 season, Kreider racked up 343 assists, 344 kills and 293 digs while taking home Great Northern U.P. Conference Player of the Year honors.

Grondin, the 2024 West PAC – Copper Division Offensive Player of the Year in Football, will be taking his talents to Sault Ste. Marie to play basketball.

During the 2023-24 season, Grondin took home GNC Defensive Player of the Year honors.

He also averaged 22.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game in the 2023-24 season.

Grondin capped off the 2023-24 season with a 39-point performance against Flint Powers Catholic in the MHSAA Division 2 state quarterfinals.

Brown will be joining the St. Mary’s University baseball team in Winona, Minnesota.
