Northern Lights YMCA swim team kicks off season
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Northern Lights YMCA swim team made a remarkable impression at a recent swim meet held in Iron Mountain, with 76 enthusiastic swimmers competing against the Marquette Aquatic Club and the Marinette-Menominee Stingrays.
Head Coach Aimee Tatangelo highlighted the promising growth of the team, particularly noting the influx of first-year swimmers who are quickly making their mark.
“It’s exciting to see so many new faces joining our team and performing so well,” Tatangelo said. “All of our swimmers hardwork and determination at practice paid off in a big way. Many swimmers had personal best times to start the season off in the right direction.”
Leading the charge for NLY were Sierra Tatangelo (10-years-old), Greyson Williams (8-years-old), and Sawyer Williams (10-years-old), each claiming an impressive six individual first-place finishes.
Their outstanding performances set the tone for the meet and inspired their teammates.
Allison Deuter (15-years-old) also shone brightly, securing five first-place finishes, while Tucker Williams (14-years-old), Dominic Tatangelo (12-years-old), and Bryce Johnson (14-years-old) each added four gold medals to the team’s tally. Clare Lundholm (11-years-old) contributed three first-place finishes.
Other standout gold medalists included Miriam Gustafson (8-years-old), Lucy Krznarich (10-years-old), Ben Lundholm (13-years-old), and Cira Windell (12-years-old), all of whom played crucial roles in the team’s overall success.
The NLY swim team will next compete in Marquette, where they hope to build on their recent successes and continue their upward trajectory.
