Lady Badgers fall in opener
Laona, Wis. — The Niagara girls varsity basketball team kicked off its 2024-25 regular season slate on Tuesday as it traveled to Laona, Wis. to face the Rebels.
Laona/Wabeno caught fire, scoring 31 first half points, and hung on to beat the Lady Badgers, 46-35.
The Rebels notched four 3-pointers in the first half while Niagara only made one. However, the Badgers turned things around in the second, out-scoring Laona/Wabeno 17-15.
The Rebels had two players in double figures.
Allison Albrecht led all scorers with 14 points while Lily Terry added 11 points.
Senior Mallory Sanicki led the way for Niagara with nine points.
The Lady Badgers also received contributions from Elesia Sweig (four points), Bristol Sanicki (nine points), Marley Jones (five points), Peyton Neuens-Allred (one point), Alivia Kleikamp (four points), Rachel Walker (five points) and Sydney Swanson (four points).
Niagara is back in action today against Florence at Florence County High School. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The LadyCats beat Wausaukee 52-6 on Tuesday.
