In Brief: Iron Kings launch season
IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson Area Hockey Association’s 41 Lumber 14U team will return to action Sunday at Marquette.
The team, which includes eight members from the Dickinson County area along with players from Manistique and Munising, debuted at the Calumet Colosseum earlier this month, falling 6-2 and 7-5.
Owen Shafer, a center from Pembine, Wis., and Jude Fornetti, a goalie from Kingsford, were awarded the “Hardest Worker on the Ice” jerseys.
At Houghton, the Iron Kings were defeated 10-7. Remington Vitale, a center from Manistique, and Collin Olsen, a Kingsford defenseman, wore the “Hardest Worker On the Ice” jerseys home that day.
ST. NORBERT TO FACE MONMOUTH
DE PERE, Wis. — St. Norbert College football has been invited to participate in the 2024 Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl in Wauwatosa.
The Green Knights (7-3) will face Monmouth College (8-2) at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Raabe Stadium in Wauwatosa.
The game pits the runners-up of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and Midwest Conference.
The two former MWC rivals are meeting in the Lakefront Bowl for the second consecutive year.
Monmouth won last year’s matchup 21-14 behind a late fourth-quarter rally.
St. Norbert’s roster includes junior quarterback Michael Meneguzzo of Kingsford, who has played in two games this season throwing for 161 yards; junior offensive lineman Lane Nehring of North Central, who has appeared in eight games; and junior offensive lineman Lucas Tappy of Kingsford, who has also appeared in eight games.
As a sophomore, Tappy was a first team all-conference selection.
GREEN BAY DOWNS COUGARS

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Anthony Roy’s 34 points led Green Bay over SIU-Edwardsville 82-57 on Tuesday night.
Roy had six rebounds and five steals for the Phoenix (2-3).
Marcus Hall shot 5 for 7, including 3 for 4 from beyond the arc to add 14 points.
Iron Mountain High School graduate Foster Wonders shot 3 for 8 (2 for 6 from 3-point range) and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line to finish with 10 points.
Wonders also hauled in five rebounds in the win.
Brian Taylor II finished with 16 points and six rebounds for the Cougars (4-3).
Ray’Sean Taylor added nine points, six rebounds, eight assists and two steals for SIU-Edwardsville. Jordan Pickett finished with eight points.
