MARQUETTE — After running through, over and around defenders during the 2024 season, Iron Mountain varsity football senior running back Alex Jayne was named All-U.P. 11-player “Mr. Football” by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association on Friday.

Through nine games, Jayne racked up 1,353 rushing yards and 23 TDs on 166 carries.

He was also selected to the UPSSA Dream Team offense as a running back.

Iron Mountain senior quarterback Ian Marttila took home UPSSA Offensive Player of the Year honors while fellow senior Alec Haferkorn was named Defensive Player of the Year.

The Mountaineers were also named the Small School Team of the Year while head coach Robin Marttila received Coach of the Year honors.

Kingsford was named Large School Team of the Year. The Flivvers ended the regular season as West PAC Copper champions at 9-0.

The Flivvers received six Dream Team selections with senior Trenton VanOss (running back), senior Gavin Grondin (wide receiver, return specialist), senior Mason Tappy (defensive end), senior Caleb Kliest (linebacker) and junior Jack Kriegl (defensive back).

Iron Mountain senior Bryce Davis (guard), Ian Martilla (quarterback), Jayne (running back), senior Oskar Kangas (wide receiver) and Haferkorn (defensive end) were voted to the Dream Team.

West Iron County senior Bradley Jochem was the Wykons’ lone Dream Team selection.
