Forest Park takes home multiple All-UP honors

MARQUETTE — After running through and around the competition during the 2024 campaign, North Central varsity football senior Lane Gorzinski was named All-U.P. 8-player “Mr. Football” by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association on Wednesday.

Gorzinski racked up 2,020 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns on 179 carries while also throwing for 776 yards and 11 TDs.

Pickford’s Tommy Storey brought home Offensive Player of the Year honors while Newberry’s Matthew Rahilly took home the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Forest Park, who plays in the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Division 2 8-player state final on Saturday at 1 p.m. Central time in the Superior Dome, was named the Division 2 Team of the Year by the UPSSA.

Trojans’ head coach Brian Fabbri received Division 2 Coach of the Year honors.

Forest Park senior Kevin Giuliani was named Mitchell Snyder Lineman of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Pickford took home the Division 1 Team of the Year award with head coach Josh Rader receiving D1 Coach of the Year honors.

Forest Park received four dream team selections with Giuliani (offensive lineman), sophomore Dax Huuki (hybrid), senior Matthew Showers (defensive line) and sophomore Dietrich Rasner (kicker) receiving honors.

Norway junior Owen Baij received Dream Team honors as a wide receiver and return specialist.

Outside of the top honor, Gorzinski was named to the Dream Team as a running back. Jets’ senior defensive end Spencer Willa picked up Dream Team honors as well.

The entire list of awards, as voted on by the UPSSA during Monday’s meeting at Northern Michigan University, follows.
