Cavalieri wins IM bocce singles tournament

IRON MOUNTAIN — Despite off-and-on rain showers, the Iron Mountain City Park bocce courts were alive with action on Saturday for a singles tournament.

Twenty participants competed with Lucas Cavalieri taking home first place.

Steve Cavalieri, Lucas’ father, brought home second place while Rich Sherman grabbed third and Dan Kuder was fourth.

On Sept. 2, the Dickinson Area Bocce Association will hold the Lisa Lundy Tournament starting at 8:45 a.m. This will be the final tournament of the season.

League action also continued at City Park last week with one week remaining in the season.

Bimbo’s holds the lead with 22 points in Tuesday’s men’s league action. Covenant Church 2 and Four Seasons are the closest teams to Bimbo’s after ending the week with 17 points. Best Shot Billiards had 14 while Polly’s and DC ended the week with 12 points. Covenant Church 1 finished with 11 points while Ball Busters (9 points) and Yooper Doopers (6 points) rounded out the leaderboard.

There is a new leader in Wednesday’s mixed league as Gasperini Property Services took the lead with 28 points. Covenant Church’s 27 points kept it steadily in second place.

All Season Mini Storage and The Fun Ones ended the week in a dead-heat for third place with 20 points.

The Rolling Fossils were close behind with 19 points while The Rolling Stones ended the week with 18 points. The Cheeseballs and Happy Rollers also founded themselves tied at 16 points while Bella Nona (14 points), The Spigs (13 points), The Ragazza’s (11 points), Mulka & Sons (9 points), The Benders (5 points) and Sassy Seniors (3 points) rounded out the leaderboard.

There was more movement in Thursday’s men’s league action as Fleming Construction further cemented its hold on the top spot, ending the week with 23 points. Sol Blu pushed its total to 21 points and kept a hold on second place.

Erickson closed the week with 20 points while Summers finished with 19 points.

Harris (12 points), Forever Tails (9 points), Carey Design (8 points) and Acuren Inspection (7 points) rounded out the leaderboard.
