Kingsley ends grid season for Flivvs

KINGSLEY — Kingsford traveled across the Mackinac Bridge for a first round MHSAA Division 5 football playoff matchup with the 8-1 Kingsley Stags, who ended the season for their U.P. opponents, 28-10.

Kingsford’s running game, a strength at times throughout the regular season, struggled. Senior Toby Wilcox was held to a team-high 59 yards. Kingsford gained 224 yards of total offense, with quarterback Michael Meneguzzo going 9 of 14 for 165 yards and a touchdown. He had two passes intercepted.

The Flivvers’ lone touchdown was a 6-yard reception by senior Brody Kopp. Senior kicker Diego Przeslakowski added the extra point on the touchdown, as well as kicking a successful 37-yard field goal right before halftime,

“Tough way to end the season. We played hard and our kids played with heart,” said Kingsford head coach Mark Novara.

“Being down 14-10 starting the fourth I felt we were in good position to win the game. Our defense was on the field for a long time and offensively we only had 33 plays. Tough to win games with only that many plays,” Novara said.

“We have a great group of seniors who we are going to miss. Groups like that make coaching fun,” he added.

Kingsley’s True Beeman rushed 24 times for 207 yards as the Stags had 238 yards of total offense.

The Flivvers finished the season at 6-4, while Kingsley will remain home for round two of the playoffs. They will host Clare, who defeated Gladwin 32-12 Friday night.
