Kingsford volleyball rebounds to stymie Nordics
FELCH TOWNSHIP — In four highly competitive sets, Kingsford defeated non-conference foe North Dickinson, 3-1 Tuesday night at the Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium. The host Nordics won the opening set of the match, 25-23, but the Flivvers came back to win the final three sets, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-17.
“Tonight was a fun match between two equally matched teams. We were excited to play ND again after this weekend at the Great 8 Tournament,” said Kingsford head coach Jaclynn Kreider. “We expected it to be close as they serve aggressive and have some really nice hitters and blockers.
“They are also a scrappy team defensively so we had some nice long rallies. I’m proud of our girls for not hanging their heads after losing the first set. They regrouped and were able to play more relaxed in the next set, which allowed us to get some great momentum,” Kreider added.
North Dickinson’s Ashton Hord recorded 29 digs to lead the team, Vanessa Lindholm had 19 digs and Chrislyn Inglese had 17 digs.
“Off of those digs, we were able to get our offense going. Vanessa Lindholm set the ball very well for us tonight,” said Nordics head coach Taylor Johnson.
Kassandra Cary had seven kills; Inglese and Ashton Hord, six kills each.
“Our overall level of play and our effort were both great. I am happy with both, and defensively, we had a great night as well,” Johnson added.
The Nordics travel to Skyline Central Conference foe Rapid River on Tuesday, while Kingsford will entertain Great Northern Conference foe Escanaba on the same night.
Kingsford won the JV contest, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 15-12).
