A fork in the road for the US

EDITOR:

What road did our country choose in November? Robert Frost in a poem wrote “Two roads diverged in the woods …” One road was well traveled and the other not. It seems to me that the country took the one that has been much more frequently used. History tells us that the country often chooses the one that suggests the least change, the least disruption, and the most individually self-center. Hence a leader that labels some groups as threats without real facts, creates economic condition not founded in facts, and presents a glorified future based on a fantasized past, is often elected to govern.

What is not chosen in the end is the values in our preamble and the Constitution, the moral and spiritual values that bring people together across gender, ethnic and racial divisions, and the values preached Sundays with respect to loving, caring and respecting all humanity, even those we don’t know and who may not be citizens.

It was also clear that the country does not measure women in the same way they do men.

Frost finishes the poem with “and I took the one less traveled by, and that made all the difference.” I believe that we will pay a price for the choice the country made. I pray that the country has the strength as we have had in the past to get through these times.
