Doctor stepped up to help veteran in need during ice storm

Bouquets and Barbs

Bouquet: Dr. AJ O’Sickey, psychologist, went above and beyond to assist a World War II Air Force veteran who was significantly impacted by the recent ice storm.

This veteran is often reluctant to accept extra help, as he doesn’t want to be a burden. Due to the storm, he was without heat and a warm meal for many days.

When Dr. O’Sickey realized this at his visit, he worked swiftly with the veteran’s primary care physician, Elizabeth Paling, nurse practitioner, and Voluntary Services to obtain available resources and encouraged the veteran to accept them.

Without Dr. O’Sickey’s persistence and time spent with this veteran, he may have spent the next couple days lying in bed with no heat and very little means to have food.

During a visit on Friday, the veteran expressed his appreciation to Dr. O’Sickey. He said “Thank you. If it had been anyone else — you know, someone who didn’t care very much — they would have left me here. You are a real friend.”

Thank you, Dr. O’Sickey, for your persistence and dedication.

Starting at $2.99/week.
