RONALD BRANBACK
IRON MOUNTAIN — Ronald Bernard Branback, 78, of Iron Mountain passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Ron was born Oct. 5, 1946, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Bernard and Ann (Wickman) Branback. He was a graduate of Kingsford High School. On June 7, 1966, Ron enlisted with the U.S. Army, serving in active duty as a combat engineer for two years before transferring to reserve status. Ron received his National Defense Service Medal for his service during the Vietnam War. After his service in the Army, Ron worked for the Niagara Paper Mill up until his retirement.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman.
In his spare time, Ron enjoyed cutting wood with his sons and spending time at hunting camp. His favorite times were the summers spent camping at Way Dam Resort with his children and friends. “Captain Ron” as many knew him would spend countless hours fishing or cruising the backwaters of Way Dam on his pontoon.
He loved watching all sports, especially his sons’ softball games/tournaments and the Green Bay Packers. Most importantly he will be remembered as an amazing father who was strong, kind and gentle.
Ron will be deeply missed by his four children, Ron “Reno” (Crystal) Branback of Spread Eagle, Wis., Wayne Branback of Iron Mountain, Christy Branback of Kingsford, and Brandon Branback of Quinnesec; “Papa Ron” to three grandchildren, Cailyn Branback, Ava Ramsey, and Summer Rankinen; three stepgrandchildren, Kirsten Casey, Kelly Strasser, and Scott Strasser; a brother, Bob (Linda) Branback; a sister, Lois Derenne (Jim VanLaanen); a special family friend, Jackson; along with nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.
He will remain in our hearts forever.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the dedicated staff at the VA Hospital and the Hospice Care team for helping guide Ron to pass on peacefully.
Per Ron’s wishes, a private family celebration will take place this summer.
