IRON RIVER — Roy Krenkel, 100, of Iron River, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.
He was born on April 8, 1925, in Chicago, the son of the late William and Muzetta (Puntney) Krenkel. He attended the Chicago Schools, graduating from Fanger High School in Chicago. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Roy was employed by International Harvester/Navistar in Chicago for many years, until his retirement in 1974. Roy was very proud of being a union member.
He moved to the Iron River area in 1975 to make his home. On July 15, 2006, he married Norma (Bodine) Bjorkman in Iron River. They celebrated seven wonderful years together, before Norma’s passing on April 28, 2014.
He enjoyed traveling and was a huge Chicago Bears fan and loved teasing family Packers fans. Roy met his goal of reaching 100 years old. He also loved coconut pie and pineapple.
Roy is survived by his stepsons, Michael (Charlotte) Bjorkman, and Jeffrey (Jean) Bjorkman, both of Iron River; stepdaughters, Marcia (Peter) DeClark of Niagara, Wis., Debra (Russell) Benson of Crivitz, Wis., and Patricia Bjorkman of Niagara; 13 stepgrandchildren; 21 stepgreat-grandchildren; six stepgreat-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy, Joseph, Walter, Orpha, Charles, Virginia, Ben, William, and Gloria.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor DJ Rasner to officiate.
Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
