ARMSTRONG CREEK — Robert S. “Bob” Chitko, 74, of Armstrong Creek, Wis., passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at his home.
He was born April 29, 1950, at Oviltz Hospital in Laona, Wis., son of the late Stanley and Mary (Pisczor) Chitko. Bob graduated from Goodman High School in 1968 and went on to attend Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, earning an associates degree in carpentry.
He married Catherine M. Swanson on Dec. 15, 1979, at the Union Protestant Church in Goodman. Bob was a carpenter by trade and worked for Czech Construction in Green Bay and Paul Lundy in Iron Mountain for many years.
Bob built the family home, including its kitchen cabinets and raised-hearth fireplace as well as his daughter Kara’s monument — a true labor of love.
Bob was a honky-style polka music enthusiast and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. “Baker Bob” baked many a Grandma’s chocolate cake, red velvet cake or cheesecake for family birthdays. And apple pie – oh my!
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cathy; two sons, Roger Chitko (fiance Konnie Howell) of Armstrong Creek and Stefan Chitko (fiance Kristi Stec) of Niagara, Wis.; tqo brothers, Stanley (Kathleen) Chitko and Dennis Chitko; a sister, Barbara (Quinn) Vanden Heuvel; a brother-in-law, Robert Swanson (Marilyn Byrne); a grandson, Cole Chitko; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kara Chitko; a sister, Diane Rochon; a nephew, Eric Swanson; and a brother-in-law, Roger Swanson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12 from 9 p.m. until noon at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Armstrong Creek. A prayer service will follow at noon at the church. Fr. Soja Joseph will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Armstrong Creek.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
