Dwaine ‘Dobie’ Anderson
CRYSTAL FALLS — Dwaine “Dobie” Anderson, 73, of Crystal Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Mariners Hospital in Florida.
Born on July 3, 1951, in Crystal Falls, Dobie was the son of the late Gilbert and Evelyn (Schober) Anderson. He was a lifelong member of this close-knit community, graduating from Crystal Falls Forest Park High School in 1969 before attending Northern Michigan University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1973. Throughout his school years, Dobie worked at McNeil’s Mobil Service, holding a variety of roles that shaped his work ethic and dedication.
Dobie’s life was built on service to others. He began his career in education at West Iron County Schools, teaching physical education and drivers education, and later went on to serve as the director of the Iron County Community Schools.
Most notably, he spent the majority of his career at the Forest Park School District, where he was not only a beloved teacher and drivers ed instructor but also a respected athletic director. A true advocate for young people, Dobie poured his heart into coaching, sharing his love for athletics and the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance with countless students over the years.
His passion for sports extended to his own participation as a skilled fast-pitch softball player and a member of the McNeil Oilers basketball team.
Family was everything to Dobie. He married Lori Schmidt on Sept. 22, 1979, and together they shared a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He always made time for those he cared about, whether it was for a fun outing or just a quiet moment together. He was the proudest grandfather, always ready to share a story, offer guidance, or simply enjoy a game or a quiet afternoon.
Outside of his professional and family life, Dobie found peace in nature. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and spending time at the family camp on Deer Lake. His quiet strength and love of life were evident to all who knew him
