Ronald J. Hosking

IRON MOUNTAIN — Ronald J. Hosking, 83, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson.

A lifelong resident of the area, Ron was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1960. After working alongside his father at Hosking Tire Shop, he pursued his passion for barbering, attending the Flint Barber College in Flint, Mich.

For 45 years, Ron was the owner of Hosking Barber Shop on Woodward Avenue, where he was known to many simply as “Ron the Barber.” His shop wasn’t just a place for a haircut — it was a gathering spot where friends debated politics, talked sports, and, as he liked to say, “solved the world’s problems” over a hot cup of coffee.

A pioneer in his field, Ron furthered his education to become the first in the area to specialize in custom men’s hairpieces, helping many regain their confidence. Beyond the barbershop, he was a man of many talents. He found joy in woodworking, building projects for his family, and using his skills as a handyman to fix just about anything. He also never passed up a chance for a trip to the casino, where he was famous for playing the penny slots and always “breaking even.”

A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, Ron was a proud shareholder and season ticket holder at Lambeau field for many years, cheering his team on until he was no longer able to attend the games.

Ron was a wonderful father and deeply loved by his family. He was married to his beloved wife Sandy, for 60 wonderful years before her passing in 2022.

He is survived by his son, Ronald (Susan) Hosking of Weatherby Lake, Mo.; daughter, Lisa Hosking of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Casey (Shaun) Dickinson, Margaret Hosking, Nathan (Samantha) Graham, and Rebecca (Patrick) Graham; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey Anderson, Willamina Graham, and Wesley Graham. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnne Helgren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ron and Sandy met their best friends, Mike and Ruth Adams, in Barber College, and their cherished friendship has lasted for over 50 years.

A service for family and friends will be held on Aug. 15, with details to be announced at a later date.

Condolences may be expressed to the family of Ronald J. Hosking online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.
