Mark Riedel

LEAGUE CITY, Texas — Mark Anthony Riedel, 58, of League City, Texas was called home to heaven on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, with his wife by his side. Mark passed from an unexpected and short battle with metastatic biphasic pleural mesothelioma. He left this world peacefully, knowing that he was loved and cherished by his wife, family, friends and colleagues.

Mark was born on June 11, 1966, in Marshfield, Wis. to David and Barbara Riedel. He moved to Iron Mountain at a young age and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1984.

His early career aspirations took him to Huntsville, Ala. and later led him to Houston. There he had a long career with ARES Holdings as a contractor for NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Mark loved his job and the people he worked with; he considered them to be his second family. During his time with ARES he excelled at his job, continuously going above and beyond. He received a vast number of accolades and awards of appreciation. He also achieved some of NASA’s highest honors with the Silver Snoopy Award and Stellar Award for his dedication to space flight safety and advancing space science, furthering future space activities.

On March 26, 2005, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Paula Foley.

Mark is survived by his wife, Paula; a son, Mathew and granddaughter, Charlie; his mother, Barbara; his brother, Scott; sisters, Melissa and Samantha; nephews, Anthony Free, David Riedel and Zachary Axberg; nieces, Alexandria Gentles and Emma Axberg; uncle, Thomas Wegmann; aunt, Sally Riedel; cousins, Susan Riedel, Eric Riedel and Robert Wegmann; mother-in-law, Jan Bergeron; brothers-in-law, Patrick and Robert Foley.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, David Riedel; grandparents, Maxine and Anthony Harold Wegmann and Laverne and Lillian Riedel; uncles, Mike Wegmann and Donald Riedel; father-in-law, Paul Foley.

Mark enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and Houston Astros. He had a warm, welcoming smile and a great sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
