IRON MOUNTAIN – Marita Christine Johnson, 71, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on March 5, 1954, in Schweinfurt, Germany. She was the beloved daughter of the late Oliver Johnson and Elizabeth (Elsa) Woite.
Born in Germany, Marita immigrated to the United States at a young age and spent her childhood growing up in California. She later settled in Michigan, where she dedicated herself to raising her three daughters.
Marita was a very hard working, independent woman that always found a way to make things work. Known for her vibrant spirit, Marita enjoyed little trips to the casino, where her sociable nature shone brightly-she never met a stranger and was always ready to strike up a conversation. Her adventurous heart and zest for life made her a beloved figure to all who knew her.
Marita leaves behind a legacy of love through her three devoted daughters, Lisa (Brian) Pearson, Jessica (Matthew) Houston, and Lindsey (BeJae) Whiting; proud and cherished grandmother to Holly (Luke) Seldon, Dillon Uren, Cody (Skyla) Ellis, Randi Pearson, Kiaya (James) Moore, Taylor (Hunter) Evans-DeLong, Madison Houston, and Morgan Houston; her great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy, Chloe Seldon, Tanner Seldon, Berkeley Girardi, Camdyn Girardi, Greyson Ellis, and Brixton Ellis; her dear sister Christine Bergue; she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Stephan Hensley with whom she shared a special bond. They will fondly remember her warmth and kindness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd, Bernard, Tim, and Michael; her sister, Thelma; husband, Alan Rovge; and her best friend and sidekick in life, Hunter Boy, who she referred to as her little friend.
Marita’s legacy of love, laughter, and fearless embrace of new experiences will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for close family and friends.
