Margaret Jacobson

WALKER, Mich. — Margaret Louise Jacobson (nee’ Lundin), 98, passed away on March 7, 2025, at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Walker, Mich.

She was born June 8, 1926, to parents Elvis and Rose Lundin, in Norway.

She is survived by daughters, Karen of Howell, Mich., and Christine of Rockford, Mich.; grandson David (Anna) of West Bloomfield, Mich.; and two great-grandchildren, Leo and Audrey; nephews, Richard, David, Eric and Paul, and niece, Wanda.

She is preceded in death by her husband, F. Jerome “Jerry” Jacobson; brother, Richard; sister, Jeanne; grandson, Daniel; niece, Margaret and nephew, Joseph.

Margaret spent her youth in Norway, in the Upper Peninsula, where she lived a life of poverty and hard work, yet found time to explore nature and develop skills as a writer and budding poet.

At 19 years old, she moved to Chicago to seek work, and there fell in love with her to-be husband, F. Jerome “Jerry” Jacobson. After marriage, she held factory and secretarial positions but quit work to raise her daughters.

After their H.S. graduations, Margaret used her writing skills to obtain a job as a legal proofreader, at which she excelled. She developed a successful career of 20 years in that business. After the death of her husband Jerry in 1991, she moved back to the Upper Peninsula to be closer to her many relatives there, then moved to Rockford in 2001, where she lived near her daughter Christine.

In her home, she took on responsibilities as a dog-sitter, which brought much joy to her and to her clients who respected her attentive care of their beloved pets. Once again, she refined and utilized her language skills by writing a column called “Back Then” for her home-town newspaper, the Norway Current.

A blend of local history, reminiscence, and common-sense advice, her articles were well received; she was honored by The Current on her 90th birthday, at which time she was still actively writing the column. Margaret was also well-known for her prolific poetry-writing. Relatives and friends could always expect a “birthday poem” written especially for them. She wrote poems to commemorate family milestones, special events and holidays, along with nature-themed and philosophical poetry.

Margaret was known as a generous person who gave freely to family members and others in her circle, especially in their time of need. Paradoxically and despite her natural inclination toward generosity, she, being a child of the Great Depression, was frugal especially regarding her own needs.

Margaret will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a strong woman with a strong will, yet tender and spiritual on the inside. She clung to life dearly despite much hardship in her later years, but at last her suffering is over. May the Lord bless her and keep her in His care.
