1922-2025

Lorraine Herzer

KINGSFORD — Lorraine Marie Herzer, of Kingsford, daughter of the late John and Laura Makowski, passed away peacefully on Jan. 21, 2025, at the age of 102!

Lorraine was born on Dec. 7, 1922, in Aurora, Wis. After school she enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving for several years before being honorably discharged as a corporal. She then moved to Chicago to work as a nanny before becoming a hairstylist for Merle Norman.

In her later years she met and married Henry Herzer, becoming his secretary for Herzer Gear Company of Milwaukee until retirement. She and Henry shared 25 years until his untimely death at age 69. Lorraine loved to travel, especially to California, and spent much time traveling to visit friends and family. Her favorite Sunday road trip was to Holy Hill in Milwaukee where they made their home.

Lorraine was honest, sharp, hard working, fiercely independent and so very giving to loved ones. She loved shopping with her sisters, a good cup of coffee, red wine, chocolate, her blanket, and nice things. She always looked her best.

Lorraine is survived by a sister, Lois Martin; a brother, Paul Makowski; a special niece and companion, Debbie Bastion; her sidekick, Lily; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, John Makowski and his family; a sister, Margaret Makowski; her in-laws; and many cousins and friends.

Per Lorraine’s wishes, there will be no services.
