GOODMAN, Wis. — Eric R. Swanson, 45, of Goodman, Wis., went to his eternal home on Friday, March 7, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
Eric was born June 3, 1979 in Iron Mountain, the son of Robert D. Swanson and Linda K. LaChapell. He graduated from Goodman High School in 1997 and continued his education at UW-Stevens Point where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
Eric started his career as a juvenile intake worker. He was employed by Forest and Vilas Counties for several years as well as the Potawatomi Tribe for a shorter time. Eventually he took a position as a social worker through a grant program where he split time between the Goodman, Pembine, Niagara and Florence School Districts.
Most recently, Eric was employed as a guidance counselor with the Pembine School District. Eric loved the students he worked with and his passion was sports. He was a lifelong Notre Dame fan and also enjoyed watching the Wisconsin Badgers. He was a baseball umpire, refereed numerous basketball games with his dad and enjoyed golfing with his dad and brother.
Eric coached basketball, baseball and football over the years at Northland Pines in Eagle River and for the Crandon and Laona/Wabeno school districts. He also played an instrumental role in organizing a golf fundraiser to support the Goodman & Pembine Schools Athletics. Eric loved spending time with his son, Aaron, watching his hockey games and enjoyed time with family, especially those times spent with his brother, Scott.
Eric is survived by a son, Aaron Swanson of Merrill, Wis.; his father, Robert Swanson of Goodman; his mother, Linda (Dennis) Wilcott of Iron Mountain; a brother, Scott Swanson of Appleton, Wis.; his niece and Goddaughter, Ava; a nephew, Jack; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 9 until 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church In Armstrong Creek, Wis. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Soja Joseph will officiate. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goodman.
