Keen S. Scott
IRON MOUNTAIN — Keen S. Scott, Jr., 89, of Iron Mountain, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at the Iron River Care Center in Iron River.
Keen was born on April 2, 1935, in Kingsford, the son of the late Keen Sr. and Louise (Weinert) Scott. He grew up on the Wells Grade Road in Sagola Township and graduated from Channing High School.
After serving in the U.S. army during the Korean War, Keen attended Northern Michigan University on the G.I. Bill, and on Aug. 29, 1959, he married Suzanne Heinz.
Keen became a teacher in a few U.P. schools, primarily teaching at North Dickinson Schools for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Northern Michigan University Alumni Association, the NRA, the Merriman Sportsmen’s Club, the American Legion Post 363, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford.
A big gun and history buff, Keen was a gunsmith, marksman and gun historian who loved reading his history books; he also enjoyed hunting and gardening.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Suzanne; his son, David Scott of Gladstone; his daughter, Catherine Alexander of Albuquerque, N.M.; his grandchildren, Dr. Jesse Alexander, Michael Alexander and Tyler Peterson; and a nephew, Kenneth Peterson.
Along with his parents, Keen is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Keel.
A service will be held in the spring.
