KINGSFORD — Joanne L. Miller, 94, originally of Kingsford passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2025 at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.
Joanne enjoyed the past 22 years living at Pleasant Acres in Powers, Mich.
Joanne was born on Sept. 26, 1930, in Iron River, daughter of E. Albert Erickson and Clara (Krans) Erickson. She was raised in Bates and graduated from Iron River High School in 1948.
The former Joanne Erickson married Wallace (Wally) Hubert Miller on Feb. 21, 1953 in Iron River.
Joanne and her husband, Wally, were the owners and operators of Kingsway Family Restaurant in Kingsford from 1977 to 1988 until Wally’s death. She then moved back to Iron River to live in her family home and was hired by the U.S. Forest Service through a 55-plus senior program. She experienced many new opportunities through this job including staying at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. She found herself moving back to Kingsford to be closer to family and was then employed as a medical records clerk at the Niagara Health Center. She enjoyed working and continued to do so until 2013.
Joanne’s hobbies included puzzles, word searches, playing solitaire and reading. One of her favorite authors was James Patterson. She also enjoyed listening and singing along to Toby Keith and Reba McIntyre. Above all, she loved helping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived a life through her family.
Among survivors include her children, David (Cheryl) Miller of Suamico, Wis., Paul (Alice) Miller of Escanaba, Linda (Mike) Miller of Hermansville, and Dale (Shanna) Miller of Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Chris Miller, Jennifer Miller, Ashley Weecks, Erick Miller, Ryan (Ashley) Prudhomme, Deanna (Tyler Miksa) Miller, Sophia Miller, Gabe Miller, and Isabel Miller; step-grandchild, Crystal (Jordan) Whitens; great-grandchildren, Beyonce, Ava, Evelyn, Matthew, and Kevonie; step-great-grandchildren, Harper, Lincoln, and Lainey; and brother, Paul Erickson of Colorado.
Along with her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace; and step-grandchild, Mikala Miller.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025 at The Crawford Funeral Chapel, 1236 Old U.S. 2 and Highway 41, in Bark River, Mich.
