Dorothy ‘Dorie’ Premo

CRYSTAL FALLS — Dorothy “Dorie” Premo, 100, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.

She was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Ontonagon, the daughter of Tim and Sue (Moran) Nipert. Dorie was a 1943 graduate of Ontonagon High School. During World War II she worked in Chicago and then in Tokyo, Japan during the Allied Occupation. She returned to Ontonagon and married George (Bud) Premo on Jan. 29, 1955.

George and Dorie enjoyed spending their winters in Parker, Ariz., for 25 years. Dorie enjoyed skiing, camping and outdoor activities, as well as bridge, poker and cribbage. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in 2016, and she was preceded in death by her husband Bud on Sept. 28, 2016, and granddaughter, Sarah Premo, on Feb.6, 2025. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill and Jim Nipert; and sister, Kathryn McDonald.

Dorie is survived by her daughter, Chris (John) Archocosky of Crystal Falls; two sons, Mark (Lisa) Premo of College Grove, Tenn., and Michael (Joey) Premo, of Crystal Falls; eight grandchildren, Meghan (Mark) Premo-Hopkins, Michael (Olivia) Archocosky, Grant (Brooke) Premo, Kelsey (Brett) Jones, Allison (Dan) Horn, Caitlin (William) Edwards, and Quinn Premo; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be announced by the Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Crystal Falls.

Memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to Iron County Medical Care Facility (ICMCF) Foundation and dropped off or mailed to 1523 US Hwy 2, Crystal Falls, MI 49920. Please reference Dorothy Premo in the memo section.
