Richard Pohlson

IRON MOUNTAIN — Richard Russell Pohlson passed on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, with friends and family by his side.

He was born Jan. 15, 1953, in Springfield, Ill. Richard spent most of his adolescent years in Washington, Ill., and moved to Norway, in 1969. After graduating from Norway High School in 1970, Rick joined the Air Force in 1972, where he proudly served for the next 20 years.

After retiring from the Air Force in March of 1992, Richard held various jobs, from carpentry with Zanon Construction to cooking at the Knight Owl, Bombers, and several other restaurants in the area. He loved to cook and experimented with different items, like making his own cheese and bacon. Richard also had a variety of hobbies he enjoyed: beekeeping, woodworking, golfing, gardening, and barbecuing. He always enjoyed his golf trips with the boys, especially in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Scottsdale, Ariz.. Richard had a great heart and a special sense of humor and always wanted people to laugh and be the life of the party. He will be sadly missed by all.

Richard is survived by his three children, Kira (Scott) Pekarek, Dennis Pohlson, and Cynthia (Ricardo) Calzadias; grandchildren, Tristen and Rowen (Pita), Roman; brothers and sisters, Michael Pohlson, Lynda (John) Zanon, Brenda (Bob) Ballone, Gladys Maher, and Shawn (Deb) Pohlson; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal parents and brother, Dennis Pohlson.

At Rick’s request, there will be no funeral services; however, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. A very special Thank You to all the people who helped care for him during his journey.
