Richard Anderson

IRON RIVER — Richard Earl Anderson passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born on Jan. 21, 1949, in Stambaugh, the son of the late Arthur and Caroline (Carne) Anderson. Richard attended Stambaugh High School, graduating in 1967. He attended Gogebic Community College. Richard married Darlene Trottier on Jan. 29, 1972, at Assumption Catholic Church in Iron River. They would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary this year. He was employed by Iron River City and Stambaugh City for 38 years. During those years, he was employed as a Stambaugh City police officer, the Stambaugh City manager for two years, and the public works department foreman after the consolidation of the cities of Stambaugh and Iron River. He also worked as a deputy for the Iron County Sheriff s Office. Richard was a member of the Stambaugh City Fire Department for 20 years. He was a dedicated public servant throughout his working career. After retirement, Richard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He was an accomplished woodworker and loved teaching his grandchildren how to build things. His favorite place was outside on his tractor or his four-wheeler working around the yard. Richard is survived by his wife, Darlene; son, James (Nicole) Anderson of Iron River; daughter, Dana (John) Waara of Kingsford; sister, Caroline (Henry) Trottier of Escanaba; nephew, Henry (Michelle) Trottier of Escanaba; niece, Tabitha (Ed) Brunette of Escanaba; grandchildren, Lexi, Nolan, and Ethan Anderson, Richard and Jacob Waara, and Aubrey Bice; extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Anderson and grandson, Ryan Anderson. His beloved dog Molly was waiting for him on the Rainbow Bridge. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
