Raymond ‘Bud’ Edlund
1934-2024
KINGSFORD — Raymond Duane “Bud” Edlund, 89, of Kingsford, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson.
Bud was born on Dec. 19, 1934, in Iron Mountain, to the late Wesley and Signe (Bjorkquist) Edlund. After graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force.
Upon his return home he became acquainted with Dorothy Hansen at the east side ice rink. After a few wonderful years of ice dancing, they married on Dec. 31, 1961, and raised their family in Kingsford. Ray worked at the Daily News until retirement.
Ray was a strong, kind and gentle man. He loved and protected his family. He had a kind sense of humor and used it to diffuse tense situations. He was full of fun. He liked to swim, go to fairs, and explore the U.P. with his family. He enjoyed fast pitch softball (pitcher) and bowling for many years.
He was very involved at First Covenant Church serving on boards and teaching Sunday School. He sang in the choir for over 55 years. He loved to sing in harmony and after retirement joined a barbershop group.
He was an inventor and very organized. He loved gardening, hunting, trout fishing and everything apple. (Planting trees, picking, peeling, and especially eating apple pies!)
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Lynn (Kirk) Seaman of Gladstone and Jon (Sonya) Edlund of Norway; grandchildren, Annika (Ryan) Matthias, Timothy (Samantha) Seaman, Levi Seaman, Jonathan (Lauren Kading) Edlund, Andrew (Ibiye) Edlund, Zachary (Lisa) Edlund and Bethany Edlund; great-grandchildren, Ezra, Phin, Everett, Ryder, Elianna, Enzo, with two more on the way; brother, Glenn (Shirley) Edlund and sister-in-law, Carolyn (Elwood) Anderson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Shirley; brother, Gerald (Gloria) Edlund; sister, Phyllis (Alan) Galeazzi; sister-in-law, June (Bob) Larson; and brother-in-law, Raymond (Addie) Hansen.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 28 at the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain, followed by a Celebration of Life service at noon with Pastor Chad Harrison officiating.
Burial will be in the Iron Mountain Cemetery in the spring.
