Ralph Meiner
NORWAY — Ralph E. Meiner, 98, of Norway, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024 at the Oscar J. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Faithorn, the son of the late Alfred and Alice (Arnold) Meiner.
Ralph graduated from Hermansville High School in 1944. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in Saipan during World War II.
Ralph married Marjorie Hoheisel on Sept. 13, 1952 in St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 2020.
He worked on the farm, drove bus for the Norway Schools, and worked as a mechanic before getting a job at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain as a lab tech. He retired from the hospital in 1982.
Ralph loved sports, especially watching his sons play for Norway. He was an avid Packer, Yankee and Spartan Fan, enjoyed gardening, hunting, reading and spending time with his family.
He was also a member of the Norway Lodge 362, Free and Accepted Masons.
Ralph is survived by his children, Alfred Meiner of Kingsford, Stephen (Cindy) Meiner of Waterford, Jean Meiner of Dexter, Michael (Karen) Meiner of Ray Township, Thomas (Julie) Meiner of Orlando, Fla. and James (Nancy) Meiner of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren, Benjamin (Melissa) Meiner, Elise (Caleb) Hallsten, Shannon (Daniel) Anderson, Rachel Meiner, Amanda (Jason) Goley, Nicole Meiner, Nathan (Emily) Meiner, Kristin (Joseph) English, Evan (Riley) Meiner, Leah, Josiah, Samuel and David Meiner; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor LeBoeuf of Powers; sister-in-law, Patricia Meiner of Powers; brother-in-law, Robert (Mary) Hoheisel of Norway; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Harold Meiner; sisters, Dorothy Robertson, LaVerne Laesch and Evelyn Meiner.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
Services will start with the Iron Mountain Lodge 388, Free and Accepted Masons service on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, Funeral services will follow with Pastor Jeff Gagne officiating.
Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Faithorn.
