Greta D. Betti
1934-2024
IRON MOUNTAIN — Greta D. Betti, 90, of Kingsford passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson in Iron Mountain.
Greta was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Oliver) Anderson. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1953, and earned her bachelor of science degree in education from Northern Michigan University.
Greta began her career in 1956, teaching for four years in the elementary grades for Breitung Township Schools in Kingsford. She then went on in her career to teach remedial reading for Iron Mountain Public Schools for 28 years. She retired after 32 years of teaching in Michigan.
Greta was married to Archie Betti for more than 60 years until his death in 2017.
The Beta Sigma Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International presented Greta with a 50-year membership pin and certificate Aug. 5. This award celebrates Greta’s 50 years of dedicated, active membership in the organization. She also had received the Lifetime Service award in 2017 from DKG Michigan State Organization, and was honored as Beta Sigma Chapter’s Woman of Distinction in 1999. She has shown a high level of dedication and is a positive promoter of Delta Kappa Gamma and all of its members. Greta is an exemplary member of Beta Sigma Chapter, serving actively on committees that include World Fellowship, Music and Social Hostess.
In years past, she and Archie always saw that the City of Iron Mountain had Christmas decorations, as they personally ordered and hung them, especially around the pit area. They also would recruit help and decorate the town with summer and fall decorations.
Greta enjoyed plays, movies, reading, crafts and mostly her family and friends.
Greta is survived by her three children, Mike (Lori) Betti of Iron Mountain, Patti (Brett) Ebertsch of Iron Mountain, and Tom (Julie) Betti of St. Paul, Minn.; five grandchildren, Joseph (Jessica) Ebertsch, Jason (Sarah) Ebertsch, Erica (Kaleb) Kliment, Natalie Betti-Toraason (John Toraason), and Anthony Betti; and seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Norah, Chloe, Eli, Gavin, Andrew and Jayden; and a sister-in-law, Janet Reynolds and family.
Along with her parents and husband, Greta was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Anderson, and a sister, Elizabeth “June” Hudson.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Greta’s daughter, Patti and her granddaughter, Natalie will co-officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Greta’s name at the Iron Mountain Schools.
