William F. ‘Bill’ Uren Jr.

Bill was born in Iron Mountain on May 9, 1935, son of the late Margaret and William Uren. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1953, and he married Marie (Kranner) Uren on Oct. 11, 1958, at the Trinity United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death in 2021.

Bill worked various jobs before joining the Michigan Department of Highways (MDOT) in May of 1956 where he worked as an inspector until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports on TV, especially the Packers and the Detroit Tigers, and loved spending time at this cabin (he called it “camp”). He was also very handy at fixing things and was very good at woodworking. He will be missed by all.

He leaves his children, Lisa Piatti, Michael Uren and Mark Uren; his grandchildren, Brynn (Mario) Santoni, Megan (Tony) Flaminio, Holly (Luke) Selden and Dillon Uren; his great-grandchildren, Gino and Vera Santoni, Leo Flaminio and Chloe and Tanner Selden; his sisters, Ann Bolander and Linda (Wayne) Makala; brothers-in-law, Anton (Sandra) Kranner and Bill Bengtson; and many nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Uren; a brother, Donald Uren; sisters, Janet (Duane) Lidbeck, Carol (Don) Schettler and Lita Bengtson; his mother and father-in-law, Anton and Gladys Kranner and a brother-in-law, Dave Bolander.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Jim Danielson will officiate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
